| Scientific Name: Ancistrus Sp. |
| Common Name: Bristle Nose Catfish, Common Ansictrus. |
| I have 4 common Ancistrus, 2 males and 2 females, they
constantly jockey for position around the tree stump but are fairly
unimpressed by any of their tank mates. I have never noticed them spawn
but with all the other sucker mouthes in there I dont think the eggs would
have much of a chance, they are all fairly large, the males about 25%
larger than the females with fully developed 'Bristles'. Both females are
far more active than the males, quickly appearing at feeding times and
not at all hesititant to get amidst the feeding frenzy to get their share,
the males usually hold back a bit longer untill the frenzy has died down a
bit, but they allways seem to be in good condition, so I presume they are
getting enough to eat.
I have now split the 2 pairs up, with 1 pair in each tank. The pair in
the Discus tank bred within a couple of weeks of being put in there, and
have bred several times since. The baby ancistrus seem pretty hardy and
are growing at a good rate.
