The Rock Pile
(Loach Lounge)

The Hollow Log
(Pleco Palace)

The two main features of the tank are the hollow tree stump at right and the rock pile at left. The plecos monopolise the log and the loaches seem to like hanging out and playing around the rock pile. Plants are Vallisinera and a Crypt. that I have never tried to identify. Indian fern grows freely and needs to be removed regularly, I never get all of it and it allways grows back. The val. leaves grow at an alarming rate, the plants on the right edge of the tank regualrly grow leaves that touching the left end which I prune back every month or so. I have condisered co2 systems a couple fo times but have never really needed one the plants grow at a good rate with the set up I use now. (Leaf Zone plant food and strong lighting). The caves in the rock pile, and the hollow areas of the log provide plenty of shady hiding places for plecs and loaches while still allowing me the strong lighting to grow the crypts, which have deep red under leaves.

Tank 2: 36x15x24 (tall) all glass tank 220 litres approx, beveled front.
Substrate: Pea sized rounded gravel about 2" deep over a thin layer of laterite (a plant booster available from Animates)
Lighting: 2 Double fluro fittings running 4x36" fluro tubes fitted to automatic timer, on for 10 hours per day. + 1 double 18" running 2 18" tubes at left front of tank.
Heating: Heater Unit in the Eheim Filter
Filtration: 1 Eheim Professional External Cannister Filter with heating unit. + Hangon Eheim Liberty Filter in which I run phosphate absorbtion in addition to the standard filter pads.
CO2: 2 x Hagen CO2 generators - these are basically DIY style but less messy and fairly cost effective.
Other: Eheim Plant food doser dispensing 2 doses of Eheim Plant fertilizer (1ml) per day
1 Eheim Auto food dispenser, dispensing six  feeds daily (early morning, mid afternoon and evening) of mixed flake food, shrimp pellets broken up spirillina flake pellets, and JBL Novo Pleco Chips. Supplemental feeds of frozen bloodworms, prawns, corgetes and marrows when i remember.
